Beauty shop mystery

by | Aug 18, 2014 | daily prompt

A misused word, a misremembered song lyric, a cream pie that just happened to be there: tell us about a time you (or someone else) said or did something unintentionally funny.

When I arrived to New York in the late nineties, knowing almost no English, it was a surprise the sight of a lot of little beauty shops that advertised that they did nails, something not common in my country. They were everywhere. But above all, big signs in the same shops advertising LEG WAX puzzled me.  I understood the nail’s part. I had seen around girls and women wearing proudly long, decorated nails. They had to do it somewhere. But the leg’s part didn’t make sense to me.  I was so perplexed, that I decided to ask one of my American friends:  why on earth would people go to a beauty shop  to WASH their legs? I think she’s still laughing. I learned that day the difference between “wax” and “wash”

Uncanned Laughter.
