It’s Halloween, and you just ran out of candy. If the neighborhood kids (or anyone else, really) were to truly scare you, what trick would they have to subject you to?
There will be no kids in costumes asking for treats today over here. No danger to run out of candies. In fact, these days, we are in danger to run out of flowers, because tomorrow is the feast of all saints, and everybody goes to the graveyard to pay tribute to their ancestors. I don’t have my flowers yet, and I’m nervous. I have to go to clean my father’s grave today, and tomorrow after Mass I’ll put the flowers. Red and white roses. My sister will bring more flowers, and we will pray and remember dad together.
There will be some Halloween parties in discos tonight, and some schools have organised costume parties for the little ones. A few years ago there was nothing. It’s strange how in a country where there is a harsh criticism towards the US, people at the same time copy their customs and traditions, their fashion…, everything.
Anyway, If someone wants to scare me now, only have to come with a serious face and deliver bad news about the health of one of my loved ones.
It is All Souls day here as well in the catholic parts of Switzerland. All the shops closed in our catholic canton and the graveyards full of visitors. I hope I have bought everything I need for the week-end.
Same over here. We are ready.
