A restaurant that removed your favorite item from the menu, a bad cover of a great song… Write a post about something that should’ve been left untouched, but wasn’t. Why was the original better?
I like classic movies, and thus, I usually don’t like remakes. There were insuperable film makers with a distinctive style, who had at hand great actors and original stories to tell. A remake is always a copy, with more means, new faces, but a copy. It lacks originality. When the first movie is not good, it may work, but when the original is a piece of art or the work of a genius, the result may be a failure.
I have not in mind a particular movie. But, for instance, let’s say Frank Capra’s movies. No one can imitate his style. Besides, he was a man of his time. To try to reproduce his stories into our age is quite difficult. The last remakes done about his movies have passed more or less unnoticed.
What to say about Hitchcock? There are a lot of remakes with special effects and a lot of means, but without the success of the original films.
And so we could talk about many other authors.
