Singing together

Tell us about a sensation — a taste, a smell, a piece of music — that transports you back to childhood.

Joyful Dalmatian folk music reminds me my childhood when we sang all together with dad as the conductor of the merry group. We enjoyed a lot being together the five of us with our parents singing and laughing, rehearsing new songs for our little, informal, chaotic choir. My older sister used to play the guitar. We kept singing for a long time. When my older sister got married with an American who has a beautiful baritone, he joined the group and added to the repertoire folk and soul music. He teached us the choirs in English. So we ended singing in Croatian, in Spanish and in English. But when my dad died we stopped singing. He was the soul of those joyful musical get togethers. We tried to relive them to please my mom but without dad it was not the same. It was sad.
Now i have in my phone’s ringtone the beginning of one of those joyful Dalmatian melodies we used to sing, and brings me every day good memories.

The Transporter.
