The golden pen

When was the last time a stranger did something particularly kind, generous, or selfless for you? Tell us what happened!

I have a friend who teaches biology. Many years ago, she had to make a trip to her hometown for family reasons and took a local train. She can’t loose a moment, so she began to work taking notes about some papers from her students during the trip using her fancy pen. A man, very well dressed and very polite, who was traveling in the seat next to her told her: “Is your pen golden? In that case you better keep it in your purse because somebody could steal it to you”.  She said thank you, and put away the pen. With the intense heat of the day and the monotonous rattle of the train, she fell asleep. They arrived to a small station and the change of the rhythm of the train woke her up, but she didn’t open her eyes till the train stopped completely. Then she noticed that the nice man who had traveled next to her had abandoned the car. He was in the platform waving and smiling. She smiled back, and suddenly her smile turned into an angry expression. Just when the train started she saw that the man had her pen in his hand. He was the robber.

Yes, but she had been imprudent by showing such expensive pen in a train full of strangers.
