I am perplexed. I don’t know whether to define the year that has ended as good or bad for me. Furthermore, I’ve had a lot of bad luck with my health, but great things have happened to me, and I prefer to keep the good stuff.
And there has been no room for more calamities in the world. And I am sensitive to the suffering of humanity.
A broken hand and a hospital in Austria
Let’s start with the bad: I fell on the street while running errands and braked with my hands on some stone pavers. I broke the scaphoid in my right wrist. Two and a half months in a cast and three months in rehabilitation without having regained the strength in my hand. I went on vacation to Austria, and as soon as I arrived, I fell ill with pneumonia. I was admitted to a hospital all vacation, where my roommates only spoke German, and I didn’t understand anything. Thank goodness, the doctors and most of the nurses spoke English. We were so unlucky that a woman in the room had a cardiac arrest when we were alone. I had the nerve to ring the emergency bell quickly, while the other roommates were paralyzed by fear. The medical team was quick and saved the lady.
When I left the hospital, I was so sick and couldn’t continue my trip to Croatia, where I planned to visit my family.
Let’s get to the good stuff
Poems and violin
This year, I published my first book of poems, which has been successful. The problem was that with my right hand in a cast, I had to learn to sign with my left to dedicate the books on the day of the presentation. The accident also forced me to suspend my violin learning—my latest madness, temporarily. I have a teacher who gives me online classes via Zoom, does not throw in the towel, and gives me music theory and composition sessions until I can pick up the violin again. Now, I have returned to playing better than before the injury. I am so excited about my progress with the violin that I took out of a box two years ago without knowing anything about it that I have started a blog telling the story of my musical dream that is coming true and can be found at https://myviolindream.online
