Heavy rains and floods leaved this weekend everybody at home vigilant at the level of the rivers Arga and Ultzama  in Pamplona. The neighbourhood La Rotxapea and the municipalities of Villava,  Burlada and Huarte were the most damaged by the flood with the water entering hundreds of houses, shops and cars parked in the flooded streets. The rain was so heavy that nobody was on the streets. Everybody was at home during the weekend.

The Mayor Joaquin Maya blamed the floods to several factors, including the “100 liters per square meter that have rained this weekend” that increased the flow of the Ulzama river.

“There has been no possibility of regulation of the 100 liters per square meter from the Ultzama river that have arrive to the city”, he stated.

He also mentioned the State of the soil after a long rainy season and the opening of the gates of the Eugui Reservoir.

Today, people are evaluating the damages and praying for the rain to stop. Meanwhile, firefighters and volunteers are working to try to repair things and evacuate some families. But in some areas there is no other  choice but to wait for the water to go down. Some of the bridges still closed and a lot of people are looking at the flooding of the river from the high side of the city now that the rain gave us a little truce.
