If you’re feeling blah, what is the one thing you do that you can count on to put a smile on your face?
When my father was alive we used to laugh a lot with no special reasons. He had a special sense of humour he kept until the last moment. At his side, smiling was easy. I would like to have inherited that quality to make people happy around me, but I haven’t. I’m too serious. Things that make me smile? Watch a good comedy, learn good jokes, sometimes listen a happy tune, review family pictures…, nothing too original. Besides, when I’m discouraged, when I’m blue, I can’t lift up my spirits no matter how. Even these things that usually make me smile are then useless. Or worst, make me saddest. I’m trying and maybe with time I’ll succeed, but now I’m not able to do what the old Charlie Chaplin’s song says:
Smile though your heart is aching
Smile even though it’s breaking.
When there are clouds in the sky
you’ll get by.
If you smile through your fear and sorrow
Smile and maybe tomorrow
You’ll see the sun come shining through
For you.
Light up your face with gladness,
Hide every trace of sadness.
Although a tear may be ever so near
That’s the time you must keep on trying
Smile, what’s the use of crying.
You’ll find that life is still worthwhile
If you just smile.
That’s the time you must keep on trying
Smile, what’s the use of crying.
You’ll find that life is still worthwhile
If you just smile.
