Paris, long time ago

Our free-write is back by popular demand: today, write about anything — but you must write for exactly ten minutes, no more, no less.

By popular demand? So Soon? Again a day without inspiration. What a nuisance!. Let’s see what comes up.

When I was nine my parents took me to a trip through Europe with my brother who was eleven. We went to Paris It was april 1968, just before the may revolution  and I remember have seen demonstrators and policemen riding horses on the streets.

I remember being so tired of walking around avoiding disturbances and visiting wonderful places. we went to the Eiffel Tower, to Notre Dame, La Bastille, Montmartre. We even sailed in a boat in the river Seine. But what I remember most, apart of the vertigo I suffered in the Eiffel Tower is our visit to the Louvre Museum.

My dad took me in his arms to help me see the Mona Lisa. I remember that I barely looked at the portrait of the woman. My attention was immediately caught by the background landscape. I had seen many pictures of the Mona Lisa and the face was familiar, but I had never noticed all the beauty around her. It was a discovery for me.

My brother wanted to see the egyptian art, and we had to walk and walk endlessly through the large Museum’s halls and alleys to find the artifacts, paintings, hieroglyphics and sarcophagus he loved so much.

We ended very tired but really glad to have been there.

My ten minutes have passed.

Ready, Set, Done.

Ah, Paris. I have been twice and did more walking around tiny backstreets than I did visiting the tourist spots, and that decadent duchess of a city captured my heart beyond all recall. Thank you for sharing your memories and stirring mine 🙂
