Maybe some of my followers are wondering what happened to me. I grew silent since January. No posts no photos. Nothing. The culprit: a brand new violin I received as a Christmas gift and arrived last January 6th.

I have never played violin in my life. I know my way into music because I play piano and y used to sing in a chamber choir, but I always loved the sound of the strings an its expressivity. Nevertheless, I thought that it was out of my reach.

But now there are affordable instruments and many ways to learn with teachers dedicated to adult beginners. And I was tempted So I began to speak about how wonderful would be to have a violin

The magic of Christmas did the rest. I thought that my wish will be taken as a temporary madness. But I was wrong and there it was: my violin.

A violin is like a child. You have to take care of it every day: tune it, clean it, contemplate it, get to know it with its particular temperament. Then you have to learn many things: how to hold it, how to hold the bow, how to move your arm and your fingers until it becomes second nature to you. And practice, practice a lot: open strings, scales, arpeggios…And then explore its wonders to find the magic of the melody. First a little choppy, little by little, more confident, and maybe in the following days, weeks (or months) beautiful and smooth.

My little new companion has bring a new world of music to me I’m enjoying it as much as I can. I have to reschedule my day to restart my blogging activity but for now, the music has me trapped.

Thank you, Cee. I’m thrilled to learn new things from scratch! It’s like returning back to childhood in a way.
